Gay Couples Push for Inclusion in Immigration Reform Bill
KPBS and Fronteras Desk reporter Adrian Florido spoke to two gay men this week who are counting on an immigration reform bill to keep them together. One is undocumented and faces deportation, but his marriage doesn’t guarantee him the same access to legal residency other spouses get because he’s married to a man. The federal law doesn’t recognize same-sex marriages.
Now LGBTQ and immigrant rights advocates are urging lawmakers to pass an immigration reform bill that protects same-sex couples.

Diaspora Boosts Ethiopian Economy
PRI’s The World featured a story this week on how Ethiopian refugees are returning to their homeland to start businesses. They’re opening cafes and salons inspired by the places to which they fled during the 1980s, when Ethiopia and Somalia were at war. But economists warn that, for a sustainable comeback, Ethiopia’s economy needs more manufacturing jobs.

City Heights Therapist Uses Laughter Yoga
In a KPBS feature on laughter yoga – the practice of laughing to gain health benefits similar to those of yoga – a City Heights therapist at Sharp Mesa Vista said she uses laughter to help mentally ill teens cope.
