Insurance Rate for Adults Hasn’t Improved Under ACA
California Healthline reports a Commonwealth Fund study found the number of working-age adults with health insurance hasn’t yet increased under the Affordable Care Act. The number of uninsured young adults has dropped 7 percent between when 2010 and 2012, thanks in large part to a provision of the law that allows youths to keep their parents’ insurance through age 26.

The law’s health insurance marketplaces and Medicaid expansion won’t go into effect until late this year and 2014.

California Soda Tax Passes First Hurdle
Capital Public Radio reports a California measure that would tax sugary drinks passed its first committee hearing Wednesday. The tax would charge a penny per ounce of soda or sweetened beverage. The money would go toward a children’s health promotion fund.

The California Restaurant Association opposes the bill, saying it’s an unfair cost for families.
