In the fourth video of an eight part series on teens and safety in City Heights, Crawford High School students continue to shed light on the broken relationship between mid-city police and area teenagers.
Below, they question why undercover police officers are sent to Colina Park, a sprawling neighborhood park near Crawford that was once considered a hotbed of gang activity. Visibility from the street is poor, making the park attractive to drug dealers and youth who challenged each other to after-school fights.
Students and teachers at Crawford say much of that has changed. Students now walk through the park to get home and hang out there with friends. But police presence there hasn’t changed, the teens said.
