Minorities Concerned About City Redistricting Process

The city is in the process of carving out a ninth council district, and minority groups want to make sure they’re being heard during the process.

Brian Pollard is on the redistricting committee for San Diego’s 4th council district. He said the city charter requires fair representation of racial and ethnic minorities when district lines are redrawn.

“The whole issue, as far as we can see it, is making sure people who have been historically under-utilized are heard at city hall,” he said. “Not that they get a pass, but that the playing field is level.”
