Thousands of San Diegans are expected to come to a special health fair at the Jacobs Center on Euclid Avenue this Saturday. There will be free health and dental screenings, and information on the Affordable Care Act.
County workers will be on hand to help people sign up for Medi-Cal, CalFresh and other assistance programs. There will be healthy food giveaways, too.
But the event’s main focus is educating the public about the Affordable Care Act.
The California Endowment’s Dayanna Carlos said people need to get ready for the big changes that are coming soon.
“People are still a little bit confused about what the new law is,” Carlos explained. “They’re still confused about what the Affordable Care Act is and what is that going to mean for their family.”
Registration for all of the new insurance programs won’t being until October. But Carlos said it’s not too soon to let people know what options and subsidies will be available.
