It was a busy weekend for the Southern Sea Lion Dance Association. The started off their day performing at the City Heights Farmers Market celebration of Lunar New Year Saturday, before quickly speeding off to their next event to bring in the Year of the Snake.
China, Vietnam, Korea, Mongolia and Tibet all follow the lunar calendar and celebrate the Lunar New Year with their own practices.
The traditional Chinese Lion Dance is being preserved by University of California San Diego students who wish to share the Chinese culture. The Lion Dance is said to bring good luck and fortune to the community.
