The former Pearson Ford EcoCenter building on El Cajon Boulevard was transformed into a runway last week for a fashion show to benefit the La Maestra Foundation.
The international fashion show featured culturally significant attire from the United States’ more recent immigrant and refugee communities. Traditional clothing from Burma, Iraq, Somalia, El Salvador, Venezuela, Guatemala, Mexico, Philippines, Vietnam, South Sudan, Cuba, Laos and Peru was represented.
La Maestra presented the fashion show to raise funds for their Culture and Healing Through Art program, through which it showcases local artists at its clinics, and its Generations Community Center, a center for art, education and exercise shared by youth and seniors.
