Councilwoman Marti Emerald announced Tuesday the city has received a grant to build skate parks in City Heights and Linda Vista. The nearly $4.5 million comes from the state Department of Housing and Community Development and will get both parks through design and construction, Emerald said.
City Heights youth have long called for a place to skateboard, framing a sophisticated and persistent campaign around citywide discussions about inequities in park space and street infrastructure.
“Our youth have been working towards getting a skate park in City Heights for quite some time. I would like to thank them for spearheading this effort because without them this would not be possible,” Emerald said in a press release.
The parks will be added to existing public parks Linda Vista Community Park and Park De La Cruz.
