City Heights youth who participated in The AjA Project‘s PhotoCity class this spring developed two proposals for creating positive change in City Heights: build a community art wall and form a garden club and garden at Monroe Clark Middle School. Students who want a space to express themselves have proposed building a public art wall, possibly to accompany the skatepark neighborhood youth are advocating for. Other youth noticed a lack of natural space when dissecting what their photos revealed about the mid-city community and have created a plan for building a garden that will be “as big as a classroom” and feature fruits, vegetables and flowers.
