The City Council’s Ninth District has four distinctive groups of neighborhoods. There’s City Heights, Kensington/Talmadge, the College Area around San Diego State and three southeastern San Diego neighborhoods — Mount Hope, Southcrest and Mountain View.
They all have distinct needs and desires. And for the first time, they’re grouped together in the brand new City Council district.
I spent a week in the district in April talking to residents to gauge their biggest concerns and putting their questions to the two candidates, Mateo Camarillo and current District 7 City Councilwoman Marti Emerald.
