Matsuri Puppet Lecture Presented at Library’s Performance Annex

Matsuri puppet lecture

Zach Dorn of Pittsburgh, PA presented a lecture about Japan’s traditional Matsuri puppetry on June 28 at the City Heights Library’s Performance Annex.

With a degree in Puppet Arts from University of Connecticut, Dorn spent a year in Japan and studying Japanese’s traditional Matsuri Karakuri Ningyo and working with Japanese theater artists.

Karakuri Ningyo are mechanized puppets, made from the 17th to 19th century.

Dorn, in town performing his latest multimedia puppet show Let’s Prank Call Each Other at the San Diego International Fringe Festival, was invited by the City Heights Puppet Project to speak about his recent research in Japan.

The Performance Annex is a theatre operated by the City Heights Library for performances, such as dance and music.
