Colina Del Sol Park in City Heights is a little brighter today. Three picnic tables are now covered in colorful decorative tiles painted by neighborhood children. The city of San Diego returned the tables Thursday after removing them from the park to install the tiles more than two months ago.

Before that, the tiles had been sitting in storage for more than a year because budget cuts had left the park department with no one to install them. Park advocates from the City Heights Community Development Corp. had gotten neighborhood children to paint the tiles as part of a larger effort to revitalize Colina Del Sol Park and make it a friendlier place for families.
